An old rumor about Konami and PlayStation signing an exclusivity deal has now resurfaced after new information flowed in.
Way back in 2020, there were rumors that Sony Interactive Entertainment had been picking up some studios to compete with Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda. Konami was mentioned, but it turned out it was not even one of the fix companies that Sony bought in 2021. Many were wishing that this deal was true though and that there would be a revival of some of the most beloved Konami franchises like Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, and Castlevania. Then the Silent Hill 2 Remake was announced to be a PS5 exclusive, which only made more fans believe that a partnership has already formed, and there might be truth to it.
A new rumor has surfaced claiming that Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is now in the works and could be featured in the upcoming PlayStation Showcase. Various industry insiders have also supported this new rumor too like XboxEra podcast Shpeshal Nick mentions this. Windows Central’s Jez Cordon also heard the same thing saying that Sony and Konami had made a deal that involved Silent Hill, Metal Gear, and maybe a new Castlevania game.
There were also some teases recently related to the rumors of Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, which came from two musicians. Famous singer Donna Burke, singer of two theme songs of two Metal Gear Solid games, recently shared an image of herself holding a card that said Snake Eater. The other is the composer for Hogwarts Legacy J. Scott Rakozy who shared a short clip on Instagram of their version of the Metal Gear Solid theme. It was later removed, which made it more suspicious.
No official word yet from Konami or SIE, but there could be an announcement soon since it has been rumored that the new supposed PlayStation Showcase will be held later this May or early June 2023.
