Several players are complaining that their Assassin’s Creed Mirage Chromatic Aberration effect cannot be turned off for some reason.
For those who do not know, Chromatic Aberration is a graphical effect in various games including Assassin’s Creed Mirage. It simulates lens distortion to make gameplay look like it was in a film with a real camera, making it look more cinematic. Unfortunately, in gameplay it causes the outlines of objects to be blurred and sometimes shine with bright colors, blinding players instead.
Many players are calling this use in this game the worst they have seen. Others say it is making them unwell and have stopped playing altogether. It seems Ubisoft forgot to add an option to turn off this effect within the game.
“It’s pretty much killing the game and making it look so bad,” said Thestickleman on Reddit. “That along with not being able to turn motion blur off hurts my eyes a bit and makes me feel a bit ill after not too long.”
Some replied that they fell ill within 10 minutes. “It’s so insanely bad. What were they thinking?” Others could not believe that there was no option to turn the feature off.
Reddit user SioVern, who claims to be a visual effects supervisor in the film industry, revealed that chromatic aberration is an effect that film makers are working to remove. “It is a lens defect or artefact that adds nothing to the user experience, only subtracts,” they said. “Adding it in games for the sake of realism is like saying that everyone should play the game as seen by a myopic person.”
How to turn off chromatic aberration for AC Mirage?
It appears that there is no built-in option to disable chromatic aberration in AC Mirage. However, there’s a mod that can turn off the Chromatic Aberration. It remains perplexing that Ubisoft chose not to incorporate a toggle option, especially when many other games provide this level of customization to players. In the meantime, to mitigate the issue, consider disabling motion blur and adjust HDR settings. You may also try using the Assassin’s Creed 1 filter in the game to compensate for this drawback and make sure you are utilizing the best PC settings for performance and graphics for AC Mirage.
Will Ubisoft Introduce a Chromatic Aberration Toggle in the Future?
Ubisoft has not made any statement about a plan to add a new toggle button to turn the Chromatic Aberration effect off or remove the effect entirely. Here’s to hoping that a future patch could introduce this feature. The ability to toggle this feature on and off could potentially lead to improvements in aspects such as frame rates and loading times.
