Bethesda Game Studios has offered a deep dive into the upcoming Starfield expansion, Shattered Space, set to launch on September 30, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The expansion will take players to the previously unseen homeworld of House Va’ruun, a secretive faction shrouded in mystery.
In the base game, players primarily encounter House Va’ruun through attacks from its zealous followers. The expansion aims to paint a more nuanced picture of this faction, allowing players to experience their side of the story.
Upon arriving on Va’ruun’kai, players will find the capital city, Dazra, in disarray following a devastating vortex. The city’s inhabitants are grappling with the aftermath, searching for loved ones and attempting to rebuild their lives.
The entire story of ‘Shattered Space’ unfolds on Va’ruun’kai, a handcrafted planet isolated from the Settled Systems. This isolation makes it an ideal setting for a self-contained narrative experience.
Lead Producer Joe Mueller explains, “We wanted to give you the opportunity to explore every nook and cranny of this location and find clues as to who these people really are and what happened to them.” He adds, “Having the planet laid out so intentionally works perfectly with this isolationist society. Everything they’ve done since establishing themselves will be right here on Va’ruun’kai. The whole planet tells the story of these people who have never left their home and want to remain a secret.”
