Crunchyroll, in collaboration with Aniplex, Sony Music, and PlayStation Productions, has announced that a Ghost of Tsushima anime is officially in the works. The series will draw inspiration from both the award-winning base game and its Legends cooperative multiplayer mode, which delves deeper into Japanese folktales and mythology.
Fans can expect a visually stunning and action-packed adaptation, as the project boasts an impressive creative team. Takanobu Mizuno, known for his work on Star Wars: Visions, will direct the series, with animation being handled by the renowned studio KAMIKAZE DOUGA. Gen Urobuchi, the acclaimed writer behind Fate/Zero and Psycho-Pass, will oversee the story composition.
The series is being produced in partnership with Aniplex, the studio responsible for hit anime such as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and Sword Art Online. Sony Music will lend its expertise as the strategic music and soundtrack partner.
“This project is a testament to the creative synergy within the Sony family,” said Rahul Purini, President of Crunchyroll. “The Ghost of Tsushima anime will offer fans an exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style that will be bold and groundbreaking.”
Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, added, “Ghost of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project, and Aniplex is the perfect partner to translate Sucker Punch Productions’ hit video game into a stunning new anime series.”
The Ghost of Tsushima anime series is set to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027. Further details, including the voice cast and specific storylines, will be revealed in the future.
