Apex Legends Season 18 Big Ranked Changes Revealed

Here's what fans can expect in upcoming Season 18 and beyond.

Respawn Entertainment has now revealed the new changes for Ranked play coming in Apex Legends Season 18.

Apex Legends Season 18 Significant Changes

Significant changes for Ranked Play are coming to Apex Legends with the upcoming new Season 18. It was revealed that these changes were based on the issues that many players complained about during Season 17 which were disliked a lot.

The problem with Season 17’s ranked updates just did not work out. The changes to the points system and matchmaking resulted in over 20 percent of the player base reaching Master Rank. Many players wanted it to be evenly spread across all ranks. With Season 18, changes to Ranked play will finally be added.

Season 18 and Beyond Planned Changes

Respawn Entertainment revealed some of the headline changes that they are planning for Season 18 and beyond.

  • Decreasing overall LP gains per match to combat the overall shift in the rank distribution.
  • Adding a ruleset that only applies to Diamond+ to properly dial in the top of the ladder.
    • Players in these ranked tiers will have increased stakes and losses, and decreased rating bonuses and loss mitigations. Be ready to put it all on the line.
  • Adding a minimum elimination bonus increase based on the player’s MMR and buffing elimination bonus in general. Eliminations should always be a contributor to your rank.
  • Increasing action in the ring by adjusting ring damage.
  • Adjusting ring timings to create more mid-game encounters and less pre-finale lulls.
  • Updating matchmaking to better handle players that are actively challenging their MMR, for more competitively challenging matches that mirror their ranking.

The exact tweaks of these new changes are still to be determined though.

“We want to deliver the best Ranked BR experience in the world, with the tightest matchmaking and the sweatiest competition at every rank tier,” Respawn wrote.

Apex Legends is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
