Battlefield 6 Designed for New-Gen Consoles, but Can Run on Current-Gen

Game company EA has recently revealed that upcoming video game Battlefield 6 is meant for new-gen consoles, but can also run on current-gen.

Battlefield V

EA Boss Andrew Wilson recently revealed that the next Battlefield game is designed to run on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, but it can also be played on PS4 and Xbox one.

“So yes, Battlefield will be available for both current-gen and next-gen as will our sports titles,” Wilson said.

This is the obvious answer since it was confirmed by Sony Interactive Entertainment that PS5 supplies are currently low and this will continue to next year. Microsoft also somewhat confirmed this in another statement, but in a subtle way. Also, there are still a lot of members of the gaming community that play on the current-gen consoles.

“The reference specifically from our prepared remarks is around the nature of gameplay,” Wilson continued, talking about their quote on development to focus on next-gen, “what we can do with fidelity of the game, what we can do with physics, artificial intelligence and the immersive nature of the game.

“And in the case of Battlefield, what we can do with respect to the amount of plays that we can have in the game and the nature of destruction of those only in Battlefield moments that are truly next-gen opportunities that we’re able to do in the context of our next-gen franchises, because of the increased processing power in memory and output of the new consoles.”

On another news related to the upcoming game, Wilson denies that the next Battlefield will have battle-royale mode. He confirmed this in a recent earning’s call.

“Nothing to announce at the moment on either an annualized Battlefield and/or the nature of the modes in the upcoming Battlefield game,” he denied.

Battlefield 6 will possibly be announced next month. It will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Check out the confirmation here.
