2K and Gearbox Software have released a new animated character short for the upcoming Borderlands 4, pulling back the curtain on the dark and tragic backstory of Amon the Forgeknight, one of the game’s four new playable Vault Hunters.
The video, titled Demons, gives players a glimpse into the grim motivations of the new hero. According to the official description, Amon was raised within a cult that worshipped a Vault monster. His life was shattered when the Vault was opened and the creature within turned on its followers, slaughtering everyone Amon loved. As the sole survivor, he now dedicates his life to hunting and destroying as many of the monstrous beasts as he can.
The new short features Amon recounting a run-in with a different Vault-obsessed cult, an event that clearly echoes his own traumatic past. This ongoing series of character shorts aims to introduce the new cast of Vault Hunters who will be causing mayhem on the planet of Kairos.
Gearbox also locked in the launch details for the highly anticipated looter-shooter. Borderlands 4 is set to release worldwide on September 12, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is also confirmed and will launch shortly after on October 3, 2025.
