Infinity Ward is adamant about retaining the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 mini-map feature even after fans are not happy about it.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 New Mini-Map Change
The first beta weekend is now over and the developers are already planning to make changes for the next beta schedule. They have already shared the tweaks they are going to make while the second beta is still in the works, but already some fans are not liking what they are seeing. One of those changes, rather, features that are going to be retained is the new mini-map feature.
Mini Map Red Dot Mechanic
The mini-map is a small guide for a player while navigating through the battlefield and can give them hints on enemy positions with the red dots appearing on it. In the previous Call of Duty games, the red dots will appear if enemies will fire their guns or carelessly going around with so much noise like running or jumping. Modern Warfare 2 seems to have a new mechanic when it comes to mini-maps and the fans do not like it.
Only Appears with Killstreak
According to the blog that Infinity Ward posted recently, they are going to retain the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 mini-map mechanic where the red dots will ONLY appear when a UAV is active. Players who will be firing their guns or sprinting around will not appear on the mini-map. This will make it harder for players to pinpoint the latest location of opponents hiding in certain areas.
Not to Punish Players for Firing Weapons
Here’s what Infinity Ward’s explanation for the design, “The design reason for this is that we do not want to punish players for firing their weapons. We also want players to actively search out the origin of a gunshot versus just traveling directly to where the dot is on the mini-map. We continue to gather feedback on how the game is playing in regards to this topic.”
Feedback Appeciated
It is good that the developers are still continuing to gather more feedback for the changes, but for now, players are now voicing their complaints about this change. Some of them even gave their suggestion on how to make players not get punished for firing their weapons and that is with a suppressor, which makes sense. Others are already worried that Infinity Ward is not listening to the feedback after a lot of players have already voiced their opinion on bringing back the original mini-map rather than this new version.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Crossplay Beta is happening on September 22, 2022 at 10 AM PT. The game launches on October 28, 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
