Call of Duty WWII’s Story Trailer In Tokyo Game Show 2017: Activision Changed The Swastika Logo

Sony’s PlayStation Press Conference over at Tokyo Game Show 2017 revealed tons of exciting trailers from games we are excited for – that includes Sledgehammer Games’ upcoming Call of Duty: WWII.

Activision’s recent reveal of Call of Duty: WWII‘s Story Trailer, as you notice in the international trailer (even at PlayStation’s official YouTube channel – including EU) from the publisher’s official YouTube channel, Nazi Germany’s swastika logo was indeed included in the trailer.

However, at Sony’s Press Conference in TGS 2017, they replaced the swastika symbol with the iron cross – putting censorship throughout the game’s trailer.

In World War II’s history, Japan is part of the Axis powers alongside Italy and Nazi Germany. This is in fact a sensitive aspect for the Japanese people as they have horribly lost innocent civilians during the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

Call of Duty: WWII‘s exclusion of the swastika logo in the multiplayer mode brought up debates and controversy. Sledgehammer Games’ co-founder Michael Condrey said in an interview that: “But in our global community of multiplayer and zombies players, we’ve chosen deliberately not to include that. We want the community to play together. We want to be respectful of local customs and laws around the world. And frankly it’s a dark symbol with a lot of emotion behind it we don’t feel matches our multiplayer experience.”

Call of Duty: WWII launches this November 3.

What do you think about Sledgehammer Games’ exclusion of the swastika symbol from the multiplayer? Let us know down in the comments.
