Cyberpunk 2077 – Details on Next Gen Release Date, Expansions, and Fixes

To say that Cyberpunk 2077 is in need of improvements is underselling it by a large margin. On its debut, Cyberpunk 2077 released to a flurry of never-ending glitches, game breaking bugs, and performance issues. It speaks volumes when Sony takes you off their store and actually offers to give refunds. But that was nearly a year ago. Where is Cyberpunk 2077 now? Let’s take a look at details for the next gen release date, planned expansions, and overall game performance.

Cyberpunk 2077 Next Gen Release Date

What do we got here for us in Night City?

For those who are lucky enough to have bought the latest generation consoles, they’d have to wait a while. Due to the pandemic and class action lawsuits the developers have faced this year, there is significant pushback in their plans to bring Cyberpunk 2077 into the next generation.

While there is no clear date on when the next gen Cyberpunk 2077 update will come, it has been promised to come in early 2022. Originally the next generation updates were supposed to be coming in mid-to-late 2021 as part of their roadmap for the year.

You can still play Cyberpunk 2077 on your PS5 and Xbox Series, but you’ll be locked at 30 frames per second and the default settings for the previous gen consoles. It is actually recommended by Sony that you do not play this game on the standard PS4 as it still has a lot of problems.

Is the Next Gen Cyberpunk 2077 Update Free?

The upgrade from old consoles to the new generation is completely free. Anyone who owns a physical or digital copy is entitled to a free generation upgrade.

Cyberpunk 2077 Expansions

CD Projekt Red has promised new content coming up for Cyberpunk 2077. Though it isn’t quite clear what this content will be only that they’ll be expansions. It may be possible that multiplayer will be one of them. We may just have to wait for further announcements.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is it Fixed Now?

It depends on what you mean by “fixed.” Cyberpunk 2077 is far from its promised vision. While it is playable there are still an abundant of missing features that haven’t been implemented into the game. You aren’t able to customize your physical appearance such as getting a haircut or adding and removing tattoos. There are no options for customizing and upgrading vehicles.

Artificial intelligence when it comes to AI is just as non-existent and immersion breaking as it once was. NPCs still disappear when you turn around after firing your weapon. Citizens of Night City still do not know how to drive. Police still spawn, albeit further, near the player.

So by a large margin, many are still unsatisfied by the slow progression of Cyberpunk 2077 fixes. Or rather, the lack of Cyberpunk 2077 fixes. There has been no major update that addresses any issues in the game.

For reference, the last major update they had for Cyberpunk 2077 was in September 14, 2020. CD Projekt Red has been quiet since regarding fixing and updating Cyberpunk 2077.

Despite this, CD Projekt Red has mentioned that they are proud of how their game on the PC platform.
