Bungie has now announced the details of the upcoming new expansion Destiny 2: The Final Shape and Season of the Witch. A new trailer was also released.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape Release Date
The Final Shape expansion for Destiny 2 will be released on February 27, 2024. It is set to complete the Light and Darkness saga. “The Final Shape looms—a nightmarish calcification of reality into the Witness’s twisted design,” states the description of the reveal trailer. “Embark on a perilous journey into the heart of the Traveler, rally the Vanguard, and end the War of Light and Darkness.”
“What’s really important about episodes is that it’s a really big shake-up to what we’ve been doing,” said Assistant Game Director Robbie Stevens. “Instead of providing four seasons a year, you are going to get three larger episodes.
“And so, the first three episodes in this coming year are called Echoes, Revenant and Heresy, coming right after The Final Shape. And the theme for the year is going to be all about the consequences and aftermath of The Final Shape.”
The Final Expansion Story
In The Final Shape, the Guardians will be pursuing their ultimate adversary: the Witness, and confronting its efforts to use the powers of Light and Darkness to reshape the universe as it sees fit. This is also the reason why the expansion is called The Final Shape.
Reunite with Old Friends and Location
Guardians will be reuniting with old friends like the Vanguard mentors Commander Zavala, Ikora Rey, and Cayde-6 to venture into the Pale Heart, a new destination located within the Traveler. This was created and continuously reshaped by the Witness’s twisted vision, the Pale Heart will be a fully linear location and one that will allow player to revisit famous moments from the game’s past.
Time to End It All
Players will traverse The Pale Heart during the campaign battling the forces of the Witness, leading to a confrontation in the associated raid, which will launch after the release of the expansion.
Destiny 2: Season of the Witch is now available while The Finale Shape launches on February 27, 2024.
