Diablo IV Down for Hours Due to DDoS Attack

Players now calling for offline mode.

Blizzard recently suffered a DDoS attack for several hours, preventing players from logging into Diablo IV and other games like World of Warcraft.

Learning About DDoS Attacks

What is a DDoS attack anyway? According to various sources, it is a type of attack that will flood servers with fake requests, which will overwhelm them to the point of failure. These attacks are usually launched by bot networks that bad actors use. Its goal is to harm the target’s uptime. In Blizzard’s case, players could not log into various games.

Blizzard Gets Attacked

Yesterday, Blizzard was attacked by bad actors with a DDoS attack. It prevented players from playing their favorite games like Diablo IV, World of Warcraft, and other Blizzard titles. It lasted for several hours, but the company was quick to warn its gaming community about the attack and that they were investigating the issue affecting their authentication servers.

Offline Mode Suggested

It took hours before Blizzard could fix the issue, but the effect has already made fans call for an offline mode. Since they were not able to log in for several hours, it made them lose a lot of precious time which could have been used for grinding experience or rare loot. They have now suggested that an offline mode would have mitigated this issue. They would be able to continue playing the game, gaining experience and loot while waiting for servers to come back. They would then log in again when the servers were back again.

Blizzard has not made any comment regarding the players’ recent request.

Diablo IV is now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
