Final Fantasy XVI has now gone gold, which means it is now fully playable and ready to ship worldwide. Since it is all ready and prepared, the developers have been discussing some interesting details about the game’s development process like the quality of its visuals, the game engine, gameplay speed, and more. One of them has now explained why FFXVI is playable only on the new-generation console PlayStation 5.
The game’s Main Director Hiroshi Takai recently spoke with PlayStation Blog talking about how Final Fantasy XVI harnesses the power of the PS5 and how it was optimized and developed for it only. He first praised the new-gen console due to the sheer size of the memory and the speed of its SSD. He has worked on different hardware over the years, but the PS5 was different because it comes with enough memory to take full advantage of the hardware. He was quite impressed by the SSD as they were building the game because of its super speeds.
Takai said that due to the PS5’s memory, his team was able to develop the best graphics for the game. They put a lot of focus on the fine details of the character and environmental models, and the quality of lighting and shadows. To render these models on screen is quite resource-intensive, but the PS5 could handle all of that easily.
FFXVI protagonist Clive could unleash various types of attacks which have animations and effects that the PS5’s memory could handle easily. The game can also seamlessly flow between resource-intensive gameplay to equally intensive cutscenes due to the PS5’s SSD.
Expect the game to smoothly play on the PS5 due to its hardware.
Final Fantasy XVI launches on June 22, 2023 exclusively on PS5.
