Genshin Impact Technical Director Zhenzhong Yi recently shared details about their reasons for not totally changing the visuals of the game.
In an interview with media outlet GamesIndustry.biz, Yi revealed that despite the power of the PlayStation 5 hardware, they opted on not making an overhaul of the graphics. The reason for this choice was to maintain the highly stylized look across all versions of the game. They wanted everyone from different platforms to enjoy the same visuals instead of favoring one platform from another.
Yi did say that instead of an overhaul, miHoYo wanted graphical improvements instead. The visuals that they already have on the game was just sharpened, shined, and polished more with the PS5’s GPU.
“We hope to create a game world with massive landscapes full of landmarks and mysteries and tons of details in every corner,” Yi explains. “With the enhanced LOD distance, players now have a better distance view of what lies ahead waiting to be discovered. Meanwhile, the high-res textures allow us to pack more details and stories into everything you see. By running all these in native 4K resolution and the HDR support, we hope to give players a deeper, sharper and smoother look into the game world.”
Yi insisted that the original art style of Genshin Impact is the essential prerequisite and should not be changed at all. All other stuffs are just improvements to what is there already.
Genshin Impact is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices.
