Knights Peak and Windup Games, the studio behind the Unravel series, have confirmed that their third-person open-world adventure title, Hela, will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. The announcement was made in conjunction with an exclusive trailer reveal during a recent Nintendo Direct broadcast.
Hela, which draws inspiration from Scandinavian folklore, is also scheduled to launch on Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game is the debut title from Windup Games, with the studio’s head expressing enthusiasm for the new platform announcement.
“We’re incredibly excited to be part of the Nintendo Direct and to finally introduce Hela to a new group of fans who have long been asking if the game would come to Switch,” said Alexander Benitez, Head of Studio at Windup Games. “Together with our publisher, Knights Peak, we feel honored by this opportunity and truly believe Hela will be a perfect fit within the Nintendo Switch 2 lineup — a title that speaks directly to the tastes and expectations of its audience.”
Eugenio Vitale, VP of Publishing at Knights Peak, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The Nintendo Switch 2 and Hela are an ideal combination, not only because the console provides the perfect canvas for Hela‘s heart-warming adventure, but the passionate Nintendo community is known for appreciating games that offer comfort and meaning – values that Hela represents.” He added that the game’s design will allow players to immerse themselves in the world regardless of whether they are playing at home or on the go.
The game is set in a northern Scandinavian environment and follows the story of a kind Witch who falls ill. Players take control of her agile, magical mice familiars on a quest to heal her. Gameplay mechanics include exploring mystical landscapes, foraging for resources, solving puzzles, and engaging in light combat and brewing activities.
Hela will launch in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series S|X, PS5, and PC.
