Being a live service game with broad and personal objectives, Helldivers 2 looks to be a long-term investment with how grindy some of these trophies are. From the jump, I’m looking at difficulty trophies, combat trophies, player assist trophies, and progression trophies. The only thing missing is story trophies. But that’s not what this game is about. It’s all about endless conquest in the name of managed democracy. Let’s start with the difficulty trophies.
The game’s Gold trophies are centered around the game’s Gold trophies. From what we’ve seen from devlogs and trailers, Extreme difficulty will require nothing less but the best weapons, armor, and stratagems. And that’s not taking into account a well-coordinated and focused team of skilled allies. There are a lot of things that can go wrong in an Extreme mission, friendly fire should be the least of your problems.
Getting to the point that you can confidently take an Extreme mission is something you can think about when you and your friends are very familiar with the game. You should be focusing on other things in the meantime like racking up a kill count in the thousands and learning how to complete missions without dying.
The gameplay loop is divided into two parts: the ship upgrading part and the actual boots-on-the-ground part. Upgrading your ship allows you to contribute more to the war and unlock more powerful support tech for all the new assignments you will get. Game progression appears to be cooperative action between you and all the players in the game. The more missions players around the world take part in a section of space, the faster that section of the galactic map gets cleared. This evolving series of events takes the place of a conventional story.
Currently, there are two types of enemies in the game, the bugs and the bots. If you’ve ever played games like Deep Rock Galactic, then you know what you’re getting yourself into. There are more than a few trophies tied to taking down enemies in certain ways. It should be doable once you know which enemies to look for. Dropping a resupply pod on a Glyphid Praetorian was fun in Deep Rock, it will be equally as enjoyable to make it happen on top of a Charger.
While the team is planetside, they are given a list of objectives to complete. These can range from clearing enemy positions to collecting data for research. This is where you can work on the combat trophies as well as coop-specific ones like the Promote Synergy Bronze trophy where you help a teammate load and spot targets for a rocket attack.
In case you don’t already know, limb injury is part of the game. For instance, if you injure your left arm, your character will suffer aim penalties, gun handling issues, and even delayed grenade tosses. The ‘That Which Does Not Kill You…‘ Silver trophy requires you to injure all your limbs at the same time. This can achieved in numerous ways like a jump pack accident (might as well get the Hold My Liber-tea! trophy out of the way) or an explosives accident. Just be thankful the game doesn’t ask you to complete a mission with that many handicaps.
And that’s everything I’ve got for this Helldivers 2 trophy guide. After contemplating it for a bit, I’m concerned that this is going to be a tough one for solo players to achieve. Unless we have a dedicated fireteam, we’ll have to put our trust in high-level randoms for the end-game trophies. Liberty and freedom truly come at a steep cost. Very well, I say.
