The ever-popular hero-based first-person shooter, Paladins, by Hi-Rez Studios is getting a battle royale mode. Yes, you have read that right. The game is going to get the popular 100-player last man standing mode soon. This new mode is called Paladins: Battlegrounds – familiar, isn’t it? It’s almost named after Bluehole’s Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.
Paladins: Battlegrounds is expected to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. According to Hi-Rez, the mode was created to be played in teams which players will have to stay together to apparently survive. It’s expected to have 300 times bigger compared to the Siege mode maps in Paladins.
In the course of the action, players will discover four dozen outposts where tons of loots are found, and zeppelins will also drop legendary gears for the survivors to use. Just like Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode and PUBG, the playable area of the map will be shrunk by a fog.
“Riding on a mount through this massive fantasy-themed map, looking for gear and cooperating with your team,” said Todd Harris, the Executive Producer of Paladins. “Paladins: Battlegrounds delivers some of the feel of open-world MMO PvP but all within a 20-minute match.” Hi-Rez also considers this as the ‘first hero shooter battle royale’. Will Blizzard also follow with Overwatch?
The alpha version of Paladins: Battlegrounds is already is playable at the Hi-Rez Expo and the mode is expected to launch later this year – and will still be free-to-play.
