Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged – Review

Unlimited Speed at Its Best.

Hot Wheels is back once more in the gaming world as they have released one of its fastest and fully charged games ever, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. Over the past couple of years since the PS1 era, there have been numerous Hot Wheels games such as Hot Wheels Extreme Racing, Hot Wheels Velocity X, and Hot Wheels World Race. Still, there has never been much challenging yet extremely customizable game such as Unleashed 2.

In Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, players will be able to use old cars from its predecessor and control as well as newer and familiar vehicles from the Hot Wheels franchise. They will also be able to race against multiple players online and locally. With over 130 cars, numerous race tracks, and game modes, this game has reached unlimited potential to define what racing games are all about.

There are two new types of vehicles introduced in the game, motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. As stated, there are over 130 cars and each of them is categorized based on their performance and what series they were released from the franchise. Examples are the Acceleracers Deora II from Highway 35 World Race series, Maelstrom from Special Hunt, and the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody from 2023 Fast & Furious. These cars can be unlocked by earning Speed Coins from completing multiple missions and challenges in the game and using them in the shop. Every 30 minutes a new set of purchasable vehicles will be displayed and players will have a chance to spend as much as they can to collect.

Of course, with multiple vehicles used in the game, there are racing modes that players such as myself can partake in as well. Modes like Waypoint Mode, and Grab the Gears are added to the game where players can challenge players online in different fields and more. For those who want a deep knowledge of what they are, Waypoint mode is a special type of race where players can freely roam around the race track and find multiple checkpoints to win. At the same time, Grab The Gears is a mode similar to Rocket League where players must grab first gearboxes and bring them back to their home base to earn numerous points. With many more racing and battling modes in the game, the excitement of Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged is endless.

Aside from having many multiplayer modes available to players, there is also an action-packed storyline in which players can earn Speed coins and other rewards to boost one’s profile. Though the storyline may look simple and funny, its challenges are very complex as they require not only the speed of one’s vehicle but also how one can perfectly control it. Sounds challenging for those who want a bit of experience as a crazed racer.

Racing games, of course, wouldn’t be complete without the race tracks. In Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged, players will get to play newer and humongous race tracks from one’s backyard to the dino museum and many more. With a fun and exciting feature added, race fanatics can now make their race tracks where they can either focus on drifting abilities or test out how fast they can through spiral roads that can go sideways or up and down. Plus, a fun fact about this feature is that they can share it online with the Hot Wheels community and use it to race with other players online through cross-platforms. However, the sad part about it is that there is no proper tutorial for this feature, and players, including myself, may get confused if there is no solution to this.

With all said and done, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged is a fantastic game to play with, especially if one desires to be competitive. It has shown that this game has unlimited speed at its best and can be considered an excellent game for all ages. My recommendation for those who want to try this game is to learn more about the gameplay before getting it and watch YouTube videos of the tutorials on everything there is need to know about it.
