Insomniac’s executive affirms that their studio’s relationship with Marvel is actually more “harmonious” than some would expect.
The upcoming video game Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is launching next month and recent gameplay videos suggest it will be jam-packed with tons of content. One might think that it would be difficult to create this content without having issues with Marvel like having logistical problems, forbidden plot points, and other restrictions. Instead, this is quite the opposite according to Creative Director Bryan Intihar.
It was revealed that Insomniac’s relationship with Marvel is far more collaborative than one would expect. “They’re not just Marvel, they’re friends. And that has really helped through the tougher times of trying to figure out a story moment, or what we want to do with a certain character,” he says. “In the final stretch of Spider-Man 1, we were trying to figure out how to make the fight at the end even better. And someone had the idea of Pete creating a suit based on Otto’s stuff. A lot of that came from our collaboration with Marvel.”
This peculiar partnership between Insomniac and Marvel will not be going anywhere though because after Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the next project will be Marvel’s Wolverine. The development team will still depend on Marvel’s input and hopefully it will still come out as a banger.
