Lethal Company is a horror game unlike any other. Maybe it’s the voxel-like graphics or the potential of a jumpscare at any corner, but all we know is that there is terror and dread whenever we walk the halls of these abandoned facilities. And what are we risking our lives for? Heaps of scrap that nobody wants or cares about. Unless you’re management.
In this guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about selling the scrap and items you find during your trips to various moons. There are many things that the game doesn’t tell you, and you may learn a thing or two about getting the best price from management.
How to know what to sell in Lethal Company
While it is generally a good idea to bring back as many items as possible to the Company, there will be times when you will have to decide whether the items you’ve left behind are worth risking your life. I certainly wouldn’t risk my life over an egg beater, but I’ll sure as heck challenge a loot bug for an apparatus.
The only way to determine the value of sellable items is to right-click and scan them. The scan will reveal the item’s value and the sum amount of all items within line of sight. This is useful because the value of objects is randomized upon the ship’s landing. Some beehives may be worth 100 credits, while others are closer to 80. Consider this the next time your team decides to pull a Nicolas Cage with the bees.
The next thing you’ll want to do is secure your items inside the ship. You can use the cabinet to store smaller objects, while larger ones go on the floor. But there’s no issue with dropping everything on the floor. All that matters is that all items are inside the ship when you make the eventual trip back to the Company.
It should be noted that some items do serve a purpose that goes beyond the fact that they can be sold. Objects like the remote control and the air horn have certain actions tied to them. The air horn produces a wailing sound heard quite far by friends and foe alike. The remote, on the other hand, can turn the ship’s lights on and off even from outside the ship.
Important: Make sure at least one member of the party survives the liftoff back to space. If all party members die, all collected items and scrap will be discarded, and you will have to start again from scratch with fewer days to reach your quota.
Now that you have gathered your haul, it’s time we plot a course back to sell it. While in the ship’s terminal, type in ‘company’ (comp for short) to travel to the Company building.
Where to sell items in Lethal Company
We sell everything of value to the company itself. Once on company grounds, look for this counter (pictured above) along the massive wall. It should be right in front of your ship. Pick up items on your ship and set them down on the counter. There is a limit to how many items you can sell per interaction, but you can repeat the process as many times as you need.
Kindly ring the bell on the side of the desk to get the clerk’s attention. When the slit slides open, that’s when you know that your items are going to be collected. The time it takes to open varies per player. We suspect it’s due to factors such as internet connection. Once all items have been accounted for, you will receive your paycheck.
Keep in mind that the clerk does not take kindly to those who ring the bell too frequently, especially if you are too close to the counter. The reprimand is not good for your health.
When is the best time to sell items in Lethal Company?
The best time to sell items is usually on the last day of quota, but that can change depending on your needs. You have a total of 3 days to meet your quota. On Day 0, you are expected to return to the company and sell whatever items you have collected.
On the first day of your run, the company buys items at around 30% of their value. On the second day, it goes up to somewhere around 50%. By the third day, it goes up to 77% of its value. On the last day to get quota, the items you sell will go for 100% of their value.
Tip: You can check the buying rate by going to the terminal and looking at the value beside The Company building on the screen.
According to in-game lore texts, there is a rare possibility that management will buy items at 120% of their value on certain days and quotas. But we have yet to find evidence of that happening in people’s games.
And that’s everything I have regarding the selling of items in Lethal Company. Hopefully, you find this guide useful in some shape or form. For more guides and walkthroughs, feel free to check out our main page for Lethal Company here.
