We celebrate our beloved Star Wars Day on May 4 every year. This so-called Star Wars holiday is named as “May the Fourth” (in Star Wars, “May the Force Be with You”). All Star Wars fans and lovers expresses this Star Wars holiday through every possible from posting statuses on Facebook, tweeting, Star Wars movie marathons, or dress up as their favorite Star Wars character. It’s May 4 tomorrow and I would like to greet everyone in advance: MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!
I’m a fan since I was 5 years old and Star Wars has been a part of my culture and life. I would like to express our celebration of Star Wars Day by providing you the Sirus Gaming Editorial Team and some of our readers’ Top Star Wars games.
I did a survey in the Sirus Gaming’s Editorial Staff to see the most common Star Wars games they loved most. And surprisingly, even if they haven’t played a lot of Star Wars titles, they still had fun with the game.
But before we go to the Sirus Gaming team’s Top Star Wars Games, here is my own Top 5:
- Star Wars: Battlefront II (PS2)
- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (PS3)
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (PC)
- EA Star Wars: Battlefront (PS4)
- Star Wars: Republic Commando (PC)
The Force is strong with the Star Wars games in this list. You might or might not agree, but these are the games that were considered to be the Star Wars games the Sirus team loved:
Star Wars: Battlefront II (PS2, Xbox, PC)
The most successful Star Wars action-shooter game ever released. Despite being an 11-year old game, this offered more features than what EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront reboot (except for the graphics) has offered. Space-battles and a campaign… who doesn’t love Battlefront II?
LEGO Star Wars (PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP)
When we love a certain franchise, we also love toys. The leading toy company for kids and, of course, adults who still wants to collect comes in to the video-game genre to play and explore in a world of Star Wars… in LEGO. As what our Assistant Editor said “LEGO Star Wars is an interesting mix of force powers and lego mechanics, fun gameplay, wide roster of unique characters… and the ability to endlessly reduce Jar-Jar to a pile of bricks”.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP)
Setting aside the game bugs and graphical glitches, this game delivers one of the most best Star Wars story set in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The Force Unleashed shows the path of Starkiller from deviating himself from the Dark Side to the Light. And the creation of the Rebel Alliance.
Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)
An MMORPG developed by the people behind Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare, showcases the historic Jedi and Sith War before Master Yoda was even born. The Old Republic is actually a successor of the old Star Wars Galaxies MMORPG, a popular online Star Wars game that offered a lot of interesting plots.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox, PC)
The best game that featured a lot of plot twists and the introduction of Darth Revan and Darth Malak. It’s an RPG adventure game developed by BioWare, the great story-telling and easy-to-learn RPG mechanics are the key points of this great Star Wars RPG game. I have nothing to say more about Knights of the Old Republic as this is one of the classic and probably the best Star Wars game ever made.
Star Wars: Rebel Assault II (PC, PS1)
As what John Fernandez (staff writer) said about this game: “A rail-shooter game that kept me entertained for a long time. Integrated a lot of real and CG, and used the original costumes”.
Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (PC)
One can tell 2D strategy games like StarCraft was one of the best RTS titles in the genre. But as a Star Wars fan, one cannot forget one of the best real-time strategy Star Wars game like Galactic Battlegrounds. You can select factions from the Empire, Rebel Alliance, Republic, Separatists, and the Gungans. Meesa or yuusa?
Star Wars: Empire At War (PC)
A modern-real-time strategy game developed by Petroglyph Games, gives out that cinematic feature in Star Wars as a strategy game. One thing that can be noted that is very much similar to Battlefront is the Galactic Conquest mode. You fight planet-to-planet and space-to-space to rule the whole galaxy. It showcases a lot of planets that was considered to be in lore. Want to visit Ilum? You may…
Star Wars: TIE Fighter (PC)
Oh talk about space simulators and dogfighting, Star Wars: TIE Fighter is one of the iconic pioneers of the Star Wars space-sims next to Rogue Squadron. You fly the most infamous TIE Fighter of the Galactic Empire.
Super Star Wars and Super Return of the Jedi (SNES)
This is what we can say a very old game… a classic indeed! Released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, this classic Star Wars game featured a side-scrolling run-and-gun gameplay genre. The story of this game is based on A New Hope.
