Meta To Halt Support for Original Oculus Quest VR Headset

Security and software updates only continue for a limited time.

The original Oculus Quest VR headset will not be supported anymore by Meta. It is now the end of the line for the Oculus Quest and the start of a new era.

In a new report by media outlet IGN, many Quest owners have now received emails confirming there will be no new features to be added this year. Instead, security and software updates will only continue into 2024. After that, the Oculus Quest VR headset is on its own as Meta severs its ties with it in terms of support.

While players are still able to access apps with the Oculus Quest headset that are compatible with it, there will be a time that they will not be able to do so. Starting March 5, 2023, social features will not be accessible which means they cannot visit their own Meta Horizon homes or their friends. They cannot create or join a party starting on that day.

For a while now, the support for this particular VR headset has been slowing down. It must have been planned already a while back that support will be stopped in a couple of months and Meta was just slowly letting the owners feel the upcoming event.
