Early Nintendo Switch Pro Plan Existed But Got Canceled Instead

The next iteration is not happening this year or anytime soon.

A new report has revealed that there was an early Nintendo Switch Pro plan and it existed at some point, but it ended up getting canceled later on.

Many Nintendo fans were holding on to hope that a new Switch Pro was going to be announced later this year. The last event that everyone was hoping for was The Game Awards 2022, but that did not happen. Any hope for the reveal of a new Switch console is now gone and this new claim might just hit the last nail in the coffin.

It was recently reported by Digital Foundry that the hybrid console system did exist at one point. There were already plans for it to push through, but it seems Nintendo had a change of heart. Various unnamed developers confirmed with the website that it had been canceled.

Digital Foundry Senior Staff Writer John Linneman has this to say:

So I think at one point internally, from what I can understand from talking to different developers, is that there was some sort of mid-generation Switch update planned at one point and that seems to be no longer happening. And thus it’s pretty clear that whatever they do next is going to be the actual next-generation hardware.

Linneman does point out that this possible new Switch system is not going to be announced as early as 2023, but it could be later than that. It is just a guess of his, but it does make sense since Nintendo still is not ready to put the original Nintendo Switch down just yet.
