PlayStation 5 Leaked Specs Hints Powerful System, But Less Than Xbox Series X

A report from a popular gaming publication revealed a leak of the upcoming console PlayStation 5 specifications.

PlayStation 5 specifications might have been leaked

The report came from Eurogamer after analyzing the leaked PS5 specs. This information was gathered after an employee at AMD was storing fragments of information on GitHub since sometime around June or July. The first information got revealed publicly around August via Twitter and was recently independently verified by Digital Foundry.

The current leak did not have any information about the PS5 CPU, but it did give some interesting ideas about its GPU instead. It is said that it will be custom unit made specifically for the PS5 and it will contain similar components currently available on AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. This custom unit will have three different settings: the basic setting for the PS5, the one that emulates the PS4, and the other for the PS4 Pro, which supports backwards compatibility. There is one more, but this is unconfirmed right now: it does mean that the PS5 should have about 9.2 teraflops of GPU power.

Comparing the Xbox Series X

Just like the PS5, the Xbox Series X has no official specifications at the moment. There are some less detailed leaks form the same source that shows it has a stronger GPU, with the goal of 12 teraflops. While it could be more powerful, it could also mean it will be very expensive to purchase. The publication noted that while the PS5 will hit the normal $399 price point, the Xbox Series X might have an estimated price of $499 due to power difference.

The PS5 will be launched on holidays 2020.
