EA’s Project Rene Confirmed as Free-to-Download Experience

This new project will co-exist with The Sims 4 when it launches.

Electronic Arts has recently confirmed that the upcoming “Project Rene” will be a free-to-download experience.

Last October 2022, EA revealed its next Sims game currently codenamed Project Rene. It did not share any specifics at that time. Maxis Studios, the makers behind the Sims series, did promise to keep fans informed via work-in-progress updates, but they were so sparse previously. Recent information seems to be quite appealing though, which appeared in June 2023 in the form of a job listing.

The posting for a Head of Marketplace and Monetization position has referred Project Rene as a “free-to-enter game”. The latest update notes by EA and Maxis have now confirmed this officially.

The newest Behind The Sims Community Stream Episode 3 confirmed that Project Rene will be a “free-to-download” title. It also specified that it would co-exist with The Sims 4 once the upcoming game will launch.

“We will continue to support both at the same time and will plan to bring more exciting content to The Sims 4 community for the foreseeable future,” the post states. “This means that when Project Rene is ready and fully open to players, you will be able to join, play and explore it without a subscription, core game purchase or energy mechanics.”

Project Rene will not have all of the content they have in Sims 4 and new content will be added over time. These add-ons will include paid DLC and free updates.

Project Rene is still in development.
