Upcoming and highly-anticipated video game Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart promises quite the big improvement since its prequels. With the power of the PlayStation 5, it is hyped to have faster loading times, smooth gameplay, and visually stimulating.
Insomniac Creative Director Marcus Smith shared some interesting facts about the game in a recent interview with Gamesradar talking about the weapons and its relation to the DualSense controller.
Smith revealed that since weapons has always been the forefront of the Ratchet experience, the DualSense controller offers some of the best tools to make each weapon unique. He explained that the haptic feedback combined with the controller speaker makes a weapon feel “distinctly textured and believable.” He stated that the controller is expressive and that is valuable for them. It makes Ratchet’s weapons all look and feel very different from one another. “… it wouldn’t be nearly as convincing if all of them had a similar basic rumble,” he continued.
The adaptive triggers offer a different functionality as well for the game. Its technology makes weapons’ functions more accurate compared to the previous controllers’ normal trigger buttons.
“Partially pulling the trigger or feathering it gives us a way to add nuance to weapon functions that just weren’t possible before as the trigger itself couldn’t give feedback,” Smith explained. “Our Burst Pistol, for example, can be fired accurately by pulling the trigger up to a middle threshold or you can pull through to go all out at the cost of accuracy.”
Using Ratchet’s weapons will be most interesting with how different they would feel with the DualSense capabilities.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 sometime early 2021.
