There’s More to the Remnant 2 The Awakened King DLC Than You Think

You might have already heard that Gearbox Publishing and developer Gunfire Games have announced a release date for Remnant 2’s first DLC dubbed, “The Awakened King”. The much anticipated first DLC is set to release on November 14th.

You can watch the teaser trailer here.

In this upcoming DLC, the One True King has reawakened after suffering greatly at the hands of a failed assassination attempt. And it seems as though he has taken out his anger on Losomn and the Fae Council using the bloody spears of the King’s Hand (new mini-boss). Somehow, The Root has poisoned his mind and has convinced him that the ones closest to him have betrayed him, including Nimue.

There’s actually a lot to unpack from the teaser trailer. But first and foremost, I’d just like to say that the identity of the Fae Council traitor is now irrelevant. The One True King has decided to clean house, leaving none of the judges alive, regardless of whether or not they were loyal. I should have guessed that was the only possible to their indecision.

From what I’ve been able to gather, this new DLC has an expected runtime of 6 or so hours. That sounds about right for a first-time run in Adventure Mode. This is about the same as it was back in Remnant: From the Ashes and how it handled its DLC. But what most people don’t realize is that there’s always more to it than adding a new area and bosses and a bunch of new items.

Remnant as a franchise loves to incorporate new content into its already existing base game. I won’t be surprised to find that the Dran tapestry magically has more empty slots added to it. It’s just how this series rolls. I’ve always said that players going into Remnant shouldn’t go into the game looking for a coherent story. They need to be looking at smaller stories at the world level. It just makes things more interesting and also I don’t have to think too hard about how all the disparate pieces go together.

It will take us multiple runs in Losomn until we get most of what the DLC has to offer. And that’s just scratching the surface. We still have to account for the changes to the other worlds and whatever secrets they may potentially hide.

The biggest change we know so far outside of the Fae Royal Castle is the fact that Nimue is chained and bound. If we take her voice-over line during this part of the teaser, I’m guessing that we are going to either free her or condemn her to prove our loyalty to the King. Knowing your typical Remnant 2 player, we’ll most likely choose both in Adventure Mode and take the rewards from either respective choice. The same goes for the inevitable end if decide to fatefully serve The One True King or take him down once and for all.

And speaking of Adventure Mode, since this isn’t technically a new world it is safe to assume that we access the new content as a new roll for the Losomn map. As such, the expanded map with the new coastal area will warrant a new sub-location. We’ll learn more about accessing it in the coming days leading up to the DLC release.

The new Ritualist Archetype appears to be a sub-class whose primary role is to inflict status effects and stun enemies through pain. This might be a melee variant of the Alchemist Archetype from the same world. We’ll more about it soon, along with how to unlock the class.

When it comes to the new Fiend enemy type, all I can say is that when it comes to area denial enemies, it is best to treat it as if you are going up against root rot. That’s pretty much all I can say about that.

All-in-all, I’m excited to go back to the world of Remnant 2 and believe me, I can’t wait to share all my findings and all the additions the dev team snuck into the base while we’re distracted by the shiny new piece of content. They’ve done it before. Chances are they’ll do it again.
