Okay so we made fun of it, we criticized it, and then we praised it. But it seems that Sonic’s movie is pulling through with an expected $40-45 million plus debut in their opening week as The Hollywood Report predicts. Deadline scores it a bit higher with $47 million plus on their first four-days.
It should be noted that the budget for Sonic The Hedgehog Movie is estimated at $95 million. A $40 million earning in debut isn’t such a bad thing.
What was originally torched, made fun of, and memed through hell and back has made quite the comeback. The reason for the backlash was originally because of Sonic’s hideous CGI design with seemed downright monstrous. The people animating it has since listened and remade Sonic to looking more like his original video game incantation.
Though we suspect they might have done that on purpose. There is no such thing as bad publicity. And it’s doubtful many people would’ve heard it if it wasn’t for the fact that everybody was making fun of it. Now that everything is seemingly fixed, Sonic The Hedgehog Movie can reap the benefits of free advertising.
Sonic The Hedgehog Movie is scheduled for debut this February 9th. Catch it in the movie theaters if you’re eager to see if it’s good or not…or wait for the reviews.
