A recent report revealed that Sony Interactive Entertainment has to cut PS5 production due to some manufacturing issues.
According to Bloomberg’s report, the game company had to cut the next-gen PlayStation console production by 4 million units. This is due to manufacturing issues with its chip, which is the System on Chip or simply SoC. This is a central feature of every console and it is a vital feature. The report says that the yields are as low as 50 percent.
The new target for production is now down to 11 million units to be manufactured by the end of March 2021. Sources say that the yields are improving but it is not getting to the target.
SIE is expecting that the demand will be high and so there could be stock shortages as a result. Hopefully they could make things right by the next production or else this could mean trouble.
In related news, SIE is reportedly shipping PS5 console by air to meet demand in the US this coming holiday season. It was revealed that the company has booked 60 flights or 60 planes in order to make a quick delivery.
