New sources have revealed that Sony plans to ship about 30 million PS5 consoles this coming FY 2023.

According to the sources of journalist Tom Henderson on Insider Gaming, these PS5s will be shipped in FY 2023, starting from March 2023 until March 2024. This new information corroborates the previous report about the rumored new PS5 with a detachable disc drive.

The sources said that the new detachable disc drive console is expected to start its production in April 2023. It will then launch in the market in September 2023.

Henderson’s sources also said that Sony plans to sell 18 million consoles in FY 2022 and 30.5 million in FY 2023. 12 million of the 30.5 million consoles in FY 2023 will be composed of the old PS5 models. These PS5 models’ production will be stopped in the holiday of 2023.

A report states that the detachable disc drive is meant to reduce costs of production.
