Sony Will Not Be Present at Gamescom This Year

Despite missing Sony, Gamescom has more companies registering.

It has been confirmed that Sony Interactive Entertainment will not appear at the upcoming German convention Gamescom this year.

Gamescom is one of the biggest gaming conventions worldwide, and big companies travel far to attend it. Microsoft, Nintendo, SIE, Square Enix, and others were some of those companies. Lately, some of these have opted not to attend these big events due to factors like the past global pandemic, large traveling expenses, and other reasons. They have now chosen to host their own events to save up and focus more on their products rather than mix them up with others. One of those companies is SIE which will be choosing to stay at home.

Sony Will Not Be in Gamescom 2023

SIE has now confirmed that it will not be attending Gamescom this year. This is now the second time the PlayStation company has declined to appear at the German gaming convention. Also, the last time the company attended was before the pandemic in 2019. This was reported by the German industry publication GamesMarkt.

Gamescom 2023 Schedule and Host

Gamescom Opening Night Live will start on August 22, 2023 and will be hosted and produced by Geoff Keighley. The main event will be running from August 23 to August 27, 2023.

More Companies Join

Organizers Koelnmesse and the German Games Industry Association have revealed that as of the middle of March 2023, 10 percent more companies have registered for the big event compared to last year’s.

Predictions

Since SIE is not attending, the other big companies will now showcase their upcoming new titles, share new updates of newly released games, reveal new hardware, and more. Since this will be on August 2023, FFXVI will have been released so it is possible a new video of FFVII Rebirth might be shown. Starfield might also be shown, possibly a new gameplay clip.
