Starborn Powers are powers that come from the mastery of time and space, and they are considered the strongest aspect that players can obtain in Starfield. As the users of these eponymous powers, the Starborn are a race of beings that can manipulate time, space, and all of the aspects in between, allowing them to be able to create multiverses on a whim. Harnessing these powers will greatly change the way players interact with their worlds as well as their experience from iteration to iteration.
Read ahead as we talk more about the Starborn Powers, how to obtain them, what they do, and how to upgrade them in Starfield.
How to obtain Starborn Powers
Starborn Powers can be obtained by finding the artifact that links to a temple, and then solving the ring puzzle within this temple. There are also other ways to obtain the other powers, too.
It is possible to not obtain all of the powers through one run (currently, it is still being figured out if it was by design or just a bug). However, powers carry over to a New Game+ or NG+ runs and players usually complete the entire 24 powers on their second or third run.
Unconfirmed: There have been rumors that there is a 25th Starborn Power that will only appear once all 24 powers have been upgraded to level X, and it will occupy the central circle in the Powers menu; this has yet to be confirmed until now.
Anti-Gravity Field Power
At a beginning of a journey, players will have a first taste of the Starborn Powers upon reaching the “Into the Unknown” mission. In this mission, Vladimir will send you to go look for a couple of artifacts that have been detected in a couple of planets. After doing so, you get another objective to investigate an anomaly in Procyon III.
This anomaly leads you to a temple where there is a mysterious mechanism of spinning rings within a zero-G environment.
To solve and interact with the temple rings, you will have to look for a cluster of glowing stars and fly to them. Each cluster that you fly into will make the rings spin faster and eventually alight with each other, opening a portal in the middle of them. You will have to get to these clusters fast enough, otherwise the spinning will subside and you will have to do them all over again.
Once the portal is open, fly into it and you will receive your first power which is the Anti-Gravity Field. You will then be able to do a demonstration of your newfound power to the rest of the Constellation members.
Parallel Self Power
The Parallel Self power can be obtained through the Power from Beyond mission and also through Barrett’s side mission called “Worlds Apart.” Due to the nature of Barrett’s story outcomes, you can get locked out from getting this power on your first playthrough, but it can be found as one powers given through the temples in an NG+ playthrough and on succeeding playthroughs.
Phased Time Power
The Phased Time power is unique since it is the only power that requires you to go through the Unity in every run in order to obtain and upgrade it.
Rest of the Starborn Powers
After getting your first power, you will then be able to get the other powers by finding the rest of the artifacts, usually 6 artifacts per run, while the rest will be from Vladimir’s “Power from Beyond” mission. These missions will have you go through the same kind portals, however their order and the planet that they can be found on will be randomized in every run or save file.
Vladimir’s will tell you if he has made a match with the temples or not, but there is a possibility that you stumble upon a temple before Vladimir does. Also, it helps to progress through the main story as it has been reported that progression unlocks the next parts to the Power from Beyond mission, especially the final missions where more artifacts can be discovered.
How to Equip Starborn Powers in Starfield
To equip a power, go to the menu and click on Powers which is just above your character’s head to access the Powers screen. From here, simply select a power that you want to equip from the powers that you have unlocked. Only one Starborn Power can be equipped at a time.
How to Use Starborn Powers in Starfield
Starborn Powers are powers that can be activated when needed. In order to use a power, you will need to have enough energy in your Starborn Energy bar, the blue bar right below the health bar. Each power has different energy costs and different effects, but most of them have area-of-effect range, or they can be targeted to an individual or a spot.
How to Upgrade Starborn Powers in Starfield
Starborn Powers can be upgraded by getting the same power again through another iteration or an NG+ run. Powers can be upgraded from level I, II, III, and so on until level X. Each upgrade will make improvements based on the nature of the power, such as longer power duration, greater damage, enhanced stopping power, etc.
