Tools are necessary for players in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life to be able to do their daily chores on the farm. Some of these tools can be upgraded to be more efficient or even produce better results with little effort. Read ahead as we go through the different tools and the ways on how to upgrade them in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life.

How to obtain Tools in A Wonderful Life

Most of the tools that you will be using will be provided by Takakura, such as:

    • Watering Can – Used to water crops.
    • Hoe – Used to till the soil to prepare it for planting.
    • Sickle – Used to cut tall grass to make fodder or cut withered crops.
    • Milker – Used on animals that can produce milk. Obtained when you get your first cow.
    • Clippers – Used on sheep to get wool. Obtained when you get your first sheep.
    • Camera – Used to take pictures to add in your album.

There are other tools that can be obtained by purchasing them from Van:

    • Brush – Used on animals such as cows, sheep, goats, and horses to clean them. Costs 1,000G.
    • Fishing Rod – Used to catch fishes from bodies of water. Costs 500G.

Van usually visits the town every 3rd of 8th of every season.

How to upgrade Tools in A Wonderful Life

Most of the regular tools that you have can be upgraded into their Copper, Silver, and Gold quality, with each upgrade allowing you to do more for less amounts of stamina or make certain animations faster. Out of all the 8 tools, only the Camera and the Brush have no available upgrades.

To unlock the tier of upgrades in Van’s shop, you will need to meet two requirements: a total number of tool usage, and getting to a certain year.

For the usage requirement, you must have used your tools a total number of times; this amount is shared amongst all the tools within the same tier for a certain group, i.e.: using the watering can 200 times, hoe 100 times, and sickle 200 times will suffice to unlock the copper tier of upgrades for the aforementioned tools.

As for the year requirement, you can unlock the higher tiers once you have progressed and reached certain in-game years:

    • Copper tools – Can be unlocked within Year 1
    • Silver tools – Can be unlocked within Year 2
    • Gold tools – Can be unlocked within Year 3

Once the tier upgrades have been unlocked, you can then purchase the tools from Van, with each tier upgrade costing more than the previous tier:

    • Copper upgrade cost – 1,000G/tool
    • Silver upgrade cost – 10,000G/tool
    • Gold upgrade cost – 50,000G/tool

With that said, here are the tools and their conditions to unlock their tiers.

    Upgrading to Copper

    • Copper Hoe, Sickle, and Watering Can – Must have a total number of 500 uses shared among the hoe, sickle, and watering can; it can be unlocked as early as Summer 8, Year 1.

    • Copper Fishing Rod – Must have caught at least 200 fishes; it can be unlocked as early as Summer 8, Year 1.

    Upgrading to Silver

    • Silver Hoe, Sickle, and Watering Can – Must have a total number of 2000 uses shared among the hoe, sickle, and watering can; it can be unlocked as early as Spring 3, Year 2.
    • Silver Milker and Clippers – Must have a total number of 250 uses shared between the milker and clippers; it can be unlocked as early as Spring 3, Year 2.

    Blessed Tool Upgrades

As you reach Year 4, you will have an opportunity to acquire the Blessed tier of tools, also known as Goddess tools, from certain villagers. These tools are improved versions of the gold tier tools and are the most powerful tool upgrades that you can get in the game.

In order to get the Blessed tools, you must first get the gold tier version of the tools as you reach Year 4. Then, you must raise your friendship level with certain villagers to unlock their Year 4 villager requests. Completing these requests will unlock the event from these villagers where you will be rewarded with the Goddess Tools. These are the villagers and their respective tools:
