CD Projekt RED has finally unveiled the highly-anticipated next installment of The Witcher franchise. The Witcher 4 trailer went out at The Game Awards 2024 and all of us are impressed as it’s been revealed that Ciri is now the main protagonist.
Breaking from tradition, The Witcher 4 shifts the focus to Ciri, the adopted daughter of Geralt of Rivia. The nearly six-minute trailer depicts Ciri as a seasoned witcher, taking on a contract in a remote village plagued by a monstrous entity demanding ritual sacrifice.
“We’re kicking off a brand-new Witcher saga, this time with Ciri as the heart of the story!” announced Sebastian Kalemba, Game Director at CD PROJEKT RED. “It feels so good to finally be able to say those words… Ciri deserves it.”
The trailer, pre-rendered in a custom build of Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU, highlights Ciri’s growth as a witcher, showcasing her mastery of swordsmanship and newly acquired magical abilities. The narrative explores Ciri’s struggle to navigate the prejudices and superstitions of the villagers while confronting a chilling truth: monsters can take many forms, not all of them monstrous.
The Witcher 4 promises to be a single-player, open-world RPG that builds upon the immersive experiences of its predecessors. Developed with Unreal Engine 5, CD PROJEKT RED aims to deliver the most ambitious and visually stunning Witcher game to date.
