PlayStation Productions and Screen Gems’ upcoming Until Dawn movie adaptation finally got its first look trailer. Fans of Supermassive Games’ 2015 interactive horror game, which also got a remake released on PC and PS5 a few months ago, might be a little disappointed to know that it’s not a faithful adaptation but a new take on the Until Dawn franchise.

Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere won’t appear in this Until Dawn movie. So if you’re expecting some of the original characters from the game, they won’t as this film from Screen Gems, directed by David F. Sandberg, who wrote, directed, and produced DCEU’s Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods went something new.
β”The movie has sort of the same tone and the same vibe, but it expands upon the universe,” said Sandberg in the first look trailer.
“One of the creative things the game did is that people make different choices and die in different ways. βThe movie has this mechanic where things start over and they get to try again. Every time they come back to life, it’s like they’re in a new horror genre. To survive, they have to make it until dawn,” Sandberg concluded.
This unique take on Until Dawn serves as a creative choice from the director and writer. However, this may not resonate with the fans when they expected a full adaptation of the 2015 game, but if the movie turns out to be great then we’ll have another film into our list of amazing video game adaptations.
Until Dawn is expected to be in theaters in April 2025.
