Warcraft Arclight Rumble is the newest mobile game set in the universe of Warcraft that just got revealed today. It is a real-time strategy tower offense game where the goal is to not only defend your camp from getting raided, but also to go on the offensive to destroy the enemy camp. It’s all the characters that Warcraft fans have known for a long time in a different kind of gameplay.
We had the privilege to see the game in advance and we also had the opportunity to meet and talk to some of the people leading the development behind the game through a Q&A session to get some details and insight on what players can expect in Warcraft Arclight Rumble.
What is Warcraft Arclight Rumble?
In Warcraft Arclight Rumble, you will get to go on a campaign composed of more than 70 missions spread throughout the land of Azeroth. In each map, you will face against other enemy camps and take on a fight to gain back control of the land. However, unlike in the main World of Warcraft game, you don’t actually have to go on a journey with your character – everything happens in an arcade machine in a tavern’s basement.
The Arclight Rumble arcade machine itself is actually a gnomish engineering marvel. All of the troops and leaders that you get to play and deploy on it are called “miniatures” or “minis” and they are being printed and assembled underneath the arcade machine which is powered by “Arclightning” or “Arclight” for short. These minis will just be little inert tabletop figurines as they pop out of the machine, but as soon as they are placed on the game board, they spring into life thanks to Arclight.
Warcraft Arclight Rumble Gameplay
The main campaign of Warcraft Arclight Rumble is split into several missions per region. In each mission, you will have to assemble your own army by picking a leader, some troops, and spells. The objective is to defeat the enemy leader which is at the other end of the mission’s map.
Points of Interest
At the start of a mission, your first goal is to capture some points of interest to either gain more ground or get a faster gold income. Deploying units or casting spells require gold and though you are given a passive gold income, you would want to send out miners to gold veins to boost your income and be able to deploy more troops in a shorter amount of time.
Another point of interest is the enemy towers that will shoot at your troops if they are in range. These towers can be destroyed and once they are down, a tower from your side will be constructed in its place. Taking down towers is also a crucial part of winning the game as it will allow you to deploy your troops around the tower, saving them the effort of travelling from your base to the frontlines.
Mission Maps
The map in each mission will also vary and have their own mechanic or gimmick that you will have to learn and play around for your advantage. Some maps will also feature a high-ground-low-ground challenge through elevation differences which basically puts ranged attackers at an advantage against melee attackers. There are also several paths that your troops can take that allow for either a straightforward march to the enemy camp or a flank to their sides.
Warcraft Arclight Rumble Game Modes
Other than the campaign missions, Warcraft Arclight Rumble will also have other game modes that players can experience.
Conquest Missions
Conquest Missions provide replayability to maps that you have already conquered by giving bonus rewards for playing them again using the other leaders from the five families.
Dungeons
Dungeons is another game mode which will ramp up the difficulty of the gameplay. A Dungeon run will be composed of three maps in which you will have to clear one by one in order to proceed. At the beginning of every map, you will be able to choose a dungeon relic that will give you a specific buff that will last throughout the run.
The goal in a Dungeon run is to clear all three maps within their given time and without losing your two lives. Clearing Dungeons will award you with Valor, a different kind of currency that will help boost your units.
Raids
Raids will be another game mode present in Warcraft Arclight Rumble, however there wasn’t much info given out about it yet, but based from our experience in other games, Raids usually feature tough bosses that you will have to defeat in order to gain lots of valuable loot.
Warcraft Arclight Rumble Miniatures
As you play through missions and complete objectives, you get to meet and collect other minis that you can add to your active roster. There will be over 60 kinds of minis that span from heroes, villains, and even monsters that you can collect and build a team out of. Each of them have their own traits and skills that can be used in both general tactics or in specific strategies.
There are five different families that you can get miniatures from and in each family, there are also several leaders or heroes that you can collect to lead your troops and provide buffs or synergies that will help you in battle.
So far, the five families present in Arclight Rumble are Beast, Blackrock, Alliance, Horde, and Undead. These particular families are chosen to be featured in the game for what their synergies will be within their troops. Though there wasn’t any mention of it yet, here’s to hoping that there will be more families added as the game expands in the future.
Minis Progression
Outside missions, you can fine tune your leaders and troops by giving them talents. These talents provide different kinds of boosts to attack speed, attack damage, movement speed, etc. Using your troops and leaders in missions will allow them to earn EXP to level up and become tougher and stronger.
Is there PvP in Warcraft Arclight Rumble?
Yes, players can play against other players through competitive matches. The gameplay for PvP matches heavily relies more on which player has the better synergy between the match-up rather than whose team has the stronger units. Winning PvP matches will also reward your units with EXP.
