Ultrahand is one of the newest abilities in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This ability allows Link to not only carry heavy objects with him but also attach them to one another and create different kinds of structures and constructs that would help in traversing the land of Hyrule.

Read ahead as we talk about the Ultrahand ability in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and share tips and tricks on how to use it effectively.

How to get the Ultrahand Ability - Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

How to get the Ultrahand Ability

The Ultrahand will be the first Zonai ability that Link will possess in the Sky Islands. It can be obtained by entering the Ukouh Shrine for the first time.

    Ultrahand Controls

To use the Ultrahand, you will need select it as your main ability first by pressing and holding on the L button to open the ability wheel, and selecting the ability using the R analog. Once it has been selected, press the L button again to enter Ultrahand mode.

    • Open ability wheel – Press and hold L button
    • Ultrahand mode – L button while Ultrahand is selected as active ability

During this mode, Link’s immediate surroundings will take on an orange glow. Items that can be picked up such as logs, carts, or hooks will be highlighted in orange. You can move your camera to be able to choose which item to grab, then press the A button to grab it.

    • Grab – A button
    • Release – B button

While grabbing an item, you can press and hold on to the R button to go into rotation mode where you can rotate the item horizontally or vertically using the D-pad buttons. Pressing the ZL button will reset the orientation of the item.

Moving an item closer to another grabbable item will make globs of glue appear where the items touch. Pressing the A button during this time will attach the items together. Holding an attached item will carry everything else that is attached to it, while wiggling the R analog while holding an item will detach anything that is attached to it.

    • Rotation mode – R button while holding an item
    • Rotate the held item – D-pad buttons
    • Reset orientation – ZL button
    • Unstick – Wiggle the R analog while holding an attached item

Different items will have different pre-defined attachment points. If part of a construct that is destructible such as a log is struck, only that part will be destroyed while the rest of the construct remains intact. Ultrahand works on any grabbable item, unlike with Magnesis that can only allow Link to lift metallic items. This ability can also be used to pick up chests or unearth half-buried chests from the ground.
