PSN Downloads Are Slowing Down For USA and Europe

A bit of bad news for those in quarantine. Not that you guys don’t have it rough enough already. But regardless, you’ll find that your download speeds, depending on where you are, are slowing down. Sony had announced earlier this week that in an effort to preserve internet bandwidth, they’ll be slowing down download speeds in the US. Initially this was only for Europe, but now this has extended to North America in order to preserve internet use for everyone.

Beginning today, we will take similar measures [to Europe] in the United States, and we will continue to take appropriate action to do our part to help ensure Internet stability as this unprecedented situation continues to evolve. We are grateful for the role we play in helping deliver a sense of community and entertainment in these very trying times. Thank you again for your support, your patience, and for being part of the PlayStation community. Please stay home and stay safe.

Jim Ryan, President and CEO of PlayStation

Along the lines of the original statement, players were still guaranteed good gameplay but may experience slower downloads.

So far, the announcement only seems to encompass both the USA and Europe. No mention of Sony limiting download speeds for Asia and other continents. Though despite the limitation in download speeds, it seems that this hasn’t impacted people much online.
