American multinational semiconductor company AMD recently stated that the processor Ryzen 5000 series getting 90C temperatures is “typical and by design.”
To clarify, this is not on idle scenarios. A full load of processes is normal for the processor, but if it is not, then there is an issue with the cooling system.
This statement was seen on a Reddit post just recently where the poster claimed that this was an exchange they had with AMD Director of Technical Marketing Robert Hallock. The user asked about what is good and desirable when it comes to CPU temperatures for Zen 3. Haddock explained with a longer answer.
Haddock revealed that 90C is normal to a Ryzen 9 5950X, Ryzen 9 5900X, and Ryzen 7 5800X at full load. 95C is also normal for the Ryzen 5 5600X at full load.

Yes. I want to be clear with everyone that AMD views temps up to 90C (5800X/5900X/5950X) and 95C (5600X) as typical and by design for full load conditions. Having a higher maximum temperature supported by the silicon and firmware allows the CPU to pursue higher and longer boost performance before the algorithm pulls back for thermal reasons.
Is it the same as Zen 2 or our competitor? No. But that doesn’t mean something is ‘wrong.’ These parts are running exactly as-designed, producing the performance results we intend.
Actually, the temperatures are listed on the official website right now. It is expected that the maximum temperatures for the Ryzen 5000 series (Ryzen 9 5950X as an example) to be 90C.
This is still something to be aware of especially when building a PC with a Ryzen 500 series processor.
