We’re already in the second quarter of 2021. As the world is still in the midst of a global pandemic, knowing what to do during your days long of being at home can be difficult. Video games are here to make us busy, and the past few months had more remaster and indie releases than big AAA titles.
The start of Q2 2021 is rather bleak in terms of heavy hitters aside from Outriders by People Can Fly and Housemarque’s Returnal. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t games worthy of your attention. Below are the games we are actually excited for:
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Originally developed by LucasArts exclusively on PC and the original Xbox, Star Wars Republic Commando was one of the most beloved Star Wars games in history next to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. Aspyr has been re-releasing a ton of Star Wars games lately, with a mobile port KotOR as their first attempt.
Having Star Wars: Republic Commando finally releasing on PS4 and even on Nintendo Switch is like a dream come true. With better resolution, optimized controls for DualShock 4 and DualSense (backwards compatibility feature), and destroying clankers, Star Wars Republic Commando is a classic worth revisiting on the PS4.
Returnal
Housemarque’s works have been quite a delight, and they might be the next Insomniac Games being a second-party studio. The studio developed really good titles like Resogun, Alienation, and Matterfall.
Returnal is the studio’s first-ever third-person action sci-fi shooter with roguelike elements, expanding its portfolio of games thus becoming a studio that Sony may want to acquire in the future.
Outriders
People Can Fly shows great potential in their upcoming third-person shooter, Outriders. The game was able to capture a lot of interest when the demo came out, showcasing great gameplay mechanics, a class system, and enjoyable gunplay. In addition, the game also features RPG elements, skill tree for upgrades, and can be played solo or with two other players through co-op.
Oddworld: Soulstorm
We’ve seen Abe in a few re-releases, but this time we have an actual sequel. Oddworld is set to continue from the events of New n’ Tasty, but it’s also considered to be a reimagining of Abe’s Exoddus.
The game will take advantage of the PS5’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers feature of the DualSense.
