Have you ever wondered how to get a bit more out of your damage and mitigation in New World? Then what you need are gems.
What are New World Gems Used For?
When you reach a high level then you’re gonna notice that some of your gear have empty slots on them, that’s where gems come in. Gems basically give you extra digits of specific stats so that you can further optimize your character’s potential in any aspect you want to specialize in.
In order to make sure that your gear can accommodate a gem then you’ll need to make sure it has a gem slot by checking if there’s something like a circle around the middle section of the tooltip when you hover over it or just by seeing a circle on the gear icon.
How to get New World Gems
In order to get our hands on some of these gems then we’re gonna need to find ourselves some raw gemstones first. These can be found through Mining so better get that pickaxe and start hoarding all those precious (or not so precious) stones. There’s also the option of going to a Trading Post to buy some raw gemstones if you need to sink your gold into something.
When you’ve got some you can go ahead and get some of them crafted at the Stonecutting table as long as you have the other ingredients you need like essence motes. Which you can gain from harvesting some special flora and fauna all around Aeternum.
Where can you find motes in New World:
Motes | Locations |
---|---|
Air Motes | Shockbulb in Monarch’s Bluff Shockspire node in Windsward First Light, south of Aeternum |
Death Motes | Blightroot in Lake Genevieve Blightcrag node in Windsward First Light, south of Aeternum |
Earth Motes | Earthspine in Brigand’s Pass and Weaver’s Fen Earthcrag node in Windsward First Light , south of Aeternum |
Fire Motes | Dragonglory in Windsward Scorchstone mining node |
Soul Motes | Soulsprouts in Everfall and Windsward Soulspire node in Everfall and Windsward |
Water Motes | Rivercress in Windsward and Everfall Springstone node in Monarch’s Bluffs |
You can also find motes from a few rare creatures or inside Alchemy chests.
New World Gem Effects – Armor
So in order to equip the gems we just need to drag them to the desired piece of equipment that you want them on. Do be careful as removing gems permanently destroys them which is bad for the environment!

New World Gem Crafting
To start crafting gems in New World, you will need one Raw Gemstone and whichever essence mote goes with it.
So you’ve got your gems, got your emotes, at a Stonecutting Table, and you know which effects you want for your gear. Then all that’s left is to start refining those bad boys. It’s a good thing that you can start Stonecutting at level 0 but you will of course need to be of a higher level in order to craft the more powerful gems.
There are four tiers of Gemstones in New World which are:
- Flawed Cut Gemstone (0 skill requirements)
- Cut Gemstone (50 skill requirements)
- Cut Brilliant Gemstone (100 skill requirements)
- Cut Pristine Gemstone (150 skill requirements)
New World Gem Locations – Where to find Gems in New World
The best way to get gemstones though is by farming the New World Amrine Excavation which you can unlock at level 23. You’ll also be needing an Amrine Tuning Orb in order to get in the raid.
To find gemstones then all we need is to mine Iron, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Starmetal, and Orichalcum ores. In order to increase our RNG of getting the gemstones then it’s best to equip a Miner’s Charm, eat food that will increase your luck, and crafting a pickaxe with an increased luck chance.
And that does it for our gemstone guide. Need more guides on New World? You can check out our guide on the Overwolf MiniMap addon or getting a Plague Doctor’s Mask.
