Glen Schofield has recently shared some interesting details about upcoming video game The Callisto Protocol, specifically about a certain game engine they are using.
The Callisto Protocol Scarier Than Dead Space?
Media outlet Eurogamer interviewed Schofield to talk about the upcoming sci-fi horror game The Callisto Protocol, which seems to be the spiritual successor of Dead Space. While it has tons of similarities to the old game series he has worked on before, it begged the question: is their new game scarier than Dead Space?
Schofield says it is not for him to say, but he is much certain that it is gorier than it. It is so gory that it even has its own Gore Engine to handle that stuff.
“It’s got some pretty horrific moments, it really does,” says Schofield. “We have a gore engine – we built Gore technology. It’s a lot of rendering, and you break up the characters into jumps, cut them up with bones sticking out and all that. Then the rendering guys, they do their special thing to it which is make everything look wet. And so every character had to be done that way – and however you go at it, chunks break off, or parts of the face, parts of the head. It’s so advanced compared to Dead Space.”
Summer Games Fest 2022 Memorable Clip
This game engine of theirs does that specifically for their characters, which makes it look so gory when they get hacked into pieces. There was one scene during the Summer Games Fest 2022 featuring the protagonist getting sucked into a machine that hacked his body into pieces. It looked so gory and realistic at the same time too.
If that does not scare you at all, at least it would make you feel uncomfortable and your hairs stand due to its gore.
The Callisto Protocol launches on December 2, 2022. It will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
