A new statement has now confirmed Tekken 8 crossplay, a most-wanted feature by Tekken series fans.
Director Katsuhiro Harada who has worked on the Tekken franchise for almost three decades now has recently replied to fans on his Twitter account. The community asked him a lot of questions about the game and he answered them to the best of his abilities. One question that stood out from the rest was about the game having crossplay function between platforms.
Harada confirmed Tekken 8 crossplay with confidence. He also gave a small trivia about previous games getting the same treatment. He claims that he tried to implement crossplay on the Xbox One and PS4 era, but both companies were at odds with each other over their mutual interests. They also were wary about the P2P security issue so both companies refused each time he asked.
Harada did clarify that there are still some problems that need to be ironed out but the developers will implement crossplay sooner or later.
Tekken 8 was first announced in September 2022 during the PlayStation State of Play livestream. There are currently 11 known characters that will join the newest roster with Asuka Kazama and Leroy Smith as the latest characters to be announced. The game still has no release date but it will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
