Final Fantasy XVI PS5 Exclusivity Explained by Producer

Square Enix has recently revealed why Final Fantasy XVI is exclusive only to PS5.

Game Informer recently interviewed Producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida” on how developer Creative Business Unit III feels about the game’s PS5 exclusivity and what that does for the studio in terms of development. He explained that the CBUIII does not go into game development thinking it wants to limit a game to just one platform or company. He revealed that when the team started development, they actually looked into all options.

It was actually revealed that the team approached multiple platforms, and multiple companies, about releasing the game. They then come back with their offers afterward. They will then consider those offers and decide which one will be the best for the project. For Final Fantasy XVI, Square Enix liked PlayStation’s offer and both have a long relationship already so that strengthened the deal.

Yoshi-P also says that limiting the development to one system will make it easier for them and allows them to optimize the game to the fullest. It allows them to maximize performance for one system because they only concentrate on that.

Final Fantasy XVI launches on June 22, 2023 exclusively on PS5.
