Microsoft expects that Sony Interactive Entertainment will be releasing a new model of the PS5 later this year.
New PS5 Slim
Various documents that got published as part of Microsoft’s legal battle with the US FTC have revealed that the company is expecting a PS5 Slim console later this year. It will cost the same as the existing PS5 Digital Edition console, which is $100 less than the standard version.
“PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point,” Microsoft said.
PS5 Pro Also Rumored
Aside from the Slim model, Microsoft claims that Sony is preparing to launch a PS5 Pro console.
“PlayStation, meanwhile, currently offers two different versions of the PlayStation 5—one with a Blu-Ray player for physical media (Standard) and one without (Digital)—and is anticipated to release further differentiated Pro and Slim models in the near future.”
Previous Rumors
There have been rumors before talking about PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro consoles. Sources claim that these new consoles will be released this year. There were also claims that there will be a detachable disc drive that will use an extra USB-C port on the back of the machine. Also these new models are planned to replace the original PS5 by the end of the year.
