Bandai Namco Entertainment has officially announced that its popular free-to-play hero shooter Gundam Evolution will be shutting down its services soon.
Gundam Evolution To End Its Services
After almost a year, Bandai Namco Online’s Gundam Evolution will shut down its services. It gained popularity since it was a game based on the anime franchise Gundam with various Gundam and other mobile suits duking it out in a closed arena with various powers and abilities. It launched last September 2022 on Steam and then a console version followed in December 2022. Unfortunately, the company has deemed it to have not taken off as it had hoped and it is planned to shut down servers on November 29, 2023.
Sad News from Producer
Executive Producer Kazuya Maruyama wrote in a blog update to share the sad news. “It is with great sadness that we are announcing the conclusion of Gundam Evolution,” he said. “We wanted to create a title that brought FPS fans and Gundam fans together. We challenged ourselves to create an authentic Gundam FPS game that could be played globally. Unfortunately, we have determined that it is no longer possible for us to provide a service that satisfies our players.”
Low Player Count
Maruyama did not specify the reasons for shutting down servers, but it is most likely that the game had low player numbers after a while. It is reported that the game only has 292 players with a 24-hour peak of 688 players. It had an all-time peak of 56,911 but that was 10 months ago.
“We will do our best to ensure that our players can enjoy Gundam Evolution to the fullest till the very end,” Maruyama said.
Two More Seasons
The game will still release new content until the end with Season 6 coming up which adds a new unit and two maps on August 29, 2023. The final season will also add a new unit and map on October 25, 2023.
