Game company Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially announced that the TV streaming service PlayStation Vue will be shut down soon.

PlayStation Vue gets shut down

Last week, it was rumored that Sony would be shutting down the TV streaming service sometime. Now it was confirmed by the gaming company and it will happen in a couple of months, but not through means of a sale as first suggested. It will be shut down on January 30, 2020 as scheduled by the gaming company. Deputy president John Kodera stated that it will allow the company to focus more on its core gaming business.

Kodera explained that the decision came down to the competitive nature of TV streaming. Currently there seems to be no change in sight for the highly competitive Pay TV industry. It was difficult for them to gain a decent foothold due to the network deals and the large volume of expensive content. They are still proud of their venture and what they have accomplished through it, which was launched way back in 2015.

Active members should know that the streaming service’s cancelation policies have not changed. The final time subscribers should expect to be charged for the service is in December this year.

PlayStation 4 owners can still access TV and film content via the PlayStation Store. They also support a lot of streaming apps from other companies now like Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video.
