Technology company Razer recently confirmed that it has accidentally exposed over 100,000 customer personal information due to a technical issue.
The leak was first reported by cyber security consultant Volodymyr Diachenko on LinkedIn just recently. The persona data from an estimated 100,000 accounts were exposed since Aug. 18. Diachenko quickly notified the company of the breach, but the non-technical support staff handled the problem. This went on for a further three weeks until the proper staff members finally solved it last Sept. 9.
Razer gave a statement to PC Gamer:
We were made aware by a security researcher of a server misconfiguration that potentially exposed order details, customer, and shipping information. No sensitive data such as credit card numbers or passwords was exposed. The server misconfiguration was fixed on the 9th September, prior to the lapse being made public.
We sincerely apologize for the lapse and have taken all necessary steps to fix the issue as well as conduct a thorough review of our IT security and systems. We remain committed to ensuring the digital safety and security of all our customers.
Customers who have questions about this can reach out to [email protected].
There was no sensitive data leaked, but Diachenko still thinks the information leaked could be used for other purposes like phishing. It is better to be on guard especially with emails that will be related to Razer.
