The big reveal of Battlefield 2042 Portal was a surprise for fans of the franchise and what it offers is very promising especially for those who want to play a specific title. Want to play the game with Bad Company mechanics? Portal will make it happen for you and the Builder will give you the keys to open those doors.
Ripple Effect Studios Justin Wiebe explained to Play UK Magazine in its latest issue (Issue 5 October 2021) that the Builder in Battlefield 2042 Portal will give you a lot of power in making changes and creating a whole new game mode, but it should be within the world the game. It means that it will be limited to the rules in the game, but you are free to make almost any kind of changes to your specifications.
Wiebe shared that players can change a lot of things in Builder like adjusting speed, health regeneration, time-to-kill, jumping, crawling, ducking, turn off HUD, and tons more. They wanted to give this kind of power to the players because many fans have been complaining about how the next Battlefield should be. Some suggested it should be more of Bad Company 2, others would say it would be great if it was WW1 themed, and so on and so forth. To finally settle this problem once and for all, one of the guys from Ripple Effect suggested that players should make their own rules instead so that they can recreate their game mechanics of a certain title from the Battlefield series and share it to everyone.
It was not a good idea… it was the best idea because it was a win-win situation for both parties.
Builder is also easy to navigate with templates already available for those interested in making their own game modes. From there, the building blocks can be connected with others if compatible. If not, it will ask the user to change another block or make changes first before trying again. It is now way easier to make a game mode for everyone to enjoy.
Battlefield 2042 launches on October 22, 2021 on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
