Aliens: Fireteam Elite Uses Only One Active Card Because Stacking Causes Issues

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is the latest video game to adapt the stories of Ridley Scott’s Aliens franchise and so far everyone is enjoying it. This new game has interesting gaming mechanics that make it exciting and it has replicated the franchise’s terrifying environment even though it is quite chaotic with the bullets spraying everywhere and the Xenomorphs appearing out of nowhere.

Players also have the option to use challenge cards that would change up the gameplay either as a helping hand or make it more challenging than ever. Media outlet MP1st asked Cold Iron Studios Head Craig Zinkievich in an interview if there is a plan to allow players add multiple cards to stack in on playthtough. Here is what he had to say about it.

Zinkievich revealed that when they designed the game’s challenge card system, they made tests for both stacking cards and just using one active card. The prior led to issues, unfortunately, as stacking many modifiers made the game really limited to what players could do. Sometimes it would cancel each other out, broke the game, or just made it plain boring.

In the end, the development team chose to use only one active card in Aliens: Fireteam Elite because it offered the chance to open up the craziest “What If” scenarios.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Check out our list of guides here. Our resident reviewer stated that this game is the “ultimate bug hunt, but it’s not without its issues”.
